Variance attribution for finance teams

Every number,
explained.

Varibridge tells you which customer, product, vendor or account moved the number, and proves that the answer foots to the ledger. In the app, and inside the Excel you already work in.

Connects to QuickBooks Online in minutes. No consultants, no implementation project. Commentary is computed from your books, not generated by an AI model.

AI tokens per insight. Commentary is arithmetic on your ledger, so it is the same answer every time and it can be audited.
100%
of every drill-down foots to the P&L line. Where detail is missing, a "Not attributed" row carries the difference instead of hiding it.

The question every CFO asks

"Revenue is up 27%." Fine. Who, what, and how much of it?

Dashboards tell you a number moved. Varibridge decomposes the movement across every dimension in your data and ranks the contributors by their share of the variance, with the price, volume and mix bridge alongside.

Revenue bridge, Jun '25 to Jun '26
Consolidated, USD. Effects sum to the total, to the dollar.

1

Customers, products, vendors, accounts, departments, entities

Each dimension gets a ranked table: current, compare, Δ, Δ%, share of variance, and whether a customer is new, lost, grew or shrank.

2

Price, volume and mix

Where you have units, revenue and cost movements split into what you sold, what you charged, and how the mix shifted, line by line.

3

Formula lines bridge to their parts

Gross profit, EBIT and net income decompose into their components first, then each component into its own drivers.

4

Any basis

Prior period, prior year, budget, or your driver-based plan. Change the basis and every table and sentence recomputes.

Two subsidiaries in this example carry no customer-level sales detail. Varibridge says so in the table instead of quietly showing a partial total.

Excel, where the work actually happens

The same answers, one ribbon button away.

Insert an Explore sheet: a two-period income statement with Δ, Δ% and the commentary column, under a header block that records the data table, filters, result size and timestamp. Click any line and drill to every detail row behind it, or pivot it by customer, vendor, account or entity. Every sheet is an Excel Table you can filter, pivot and paste into the board pack.

Connect

Your books, consolidated, in reporting currency.

Connect an entity's accounting system and Varibridge maps accounts to a canonical statement, tags product lines and departments, and rolls entities up with FX and intercompany eliminations. Multi-entity groups get a consolidated P&L with an Eliminations column, and every drill-down still knows which entity each row came from.

Σ

Driver-based forecast

Revenue planned as volume × price per product line, COGS at unit cost, headcount by department. The plan is the budget basis, so "vs plan" attribution uses real budgeted units.

≈

Auto-forecast with a graded backtest

An ensemble forecast per metric, backtested on the months it did not see, with the error shown next to it rather than hidden.

!

Alerts with the driver attached

Budget misses, margin compression, overdue receivables, burn. Each alert names its largest driver on the same basis you chose.

▣

Board pack and reports

Monthly review and board package templates that carry variance commentary forward month to month, published as immutable versions.

?

Explain any number

Click a figure anywhere and trace it: formula to components, components to GL accounts, accounts to customer sales or vendor bills.

API

Every table is an API

Read-only, org-scoped keys give Power Query, BI tools and your own scripts the same datasets the app and the add-in use.

How we show our work

Commentary a controller can sign off.

Most "AI commentary" is a language model's opinion about your numbers. Varibridge's commentary is a computation: the same inputs give the same sentence, every figure in it can be clicked back to a ledger row, and when data is missing, it says so.

It foots

Every driver table sums to the P&L line, in both periods. Shares are shares of the metric's variance, not of a partial.

Top 10 of 15 explain 82% of the variance. Total 6,596,490 = P&L Revenue 6,596,490 ✓

It says what it can't see

No customer-level budget? The table shows the actual split and marks the shares unavailable rather than inventing them.

Not attributable vs budget: price/volume/mix (no budgeted units — lock a Revenue Plan covering 2026-06 to bridge PVM vs budget)

It leaves an audit trail

Every Excel sheet opens with the data table, rows, columns, filters, options, result size and timestamp it was built from.

Filters period in 2026-04..2026-06; basis = prior year; entity = All Result 15 rows by 8 columns Updated September 30, 2026 at 4:24 PM

Questions

Straight answers.

Is the commentary written by an AI?
No. There is no language model anywhere in Varibridge. Commentary is computed from your ledger: the engine ranks contributors by their share of the variance and writes the sentence from those numbers, so the same books always produce the same words and every figure can be traced to a row.
What do you need from QuickBooks?
Read access via Intuit's OAuth connect. We pull the profit and loss by account and month, and the transaction-level detail that carries customer and vendor names, so drill-downs work on your real data. We never write to your books.
How is this different from Aleph, Cube or a BI dashboard?
Those tools are good at getting numbers into spreadsheets and dashboards. Varibridge starts one step later, at the question a CFO actually asks: why did it move? Attribution, price-volume-mix and tie-out are the product, not a feature, and the answer is deterministic rather than generated.
Will it work with my Excel?
Excel for Windows and Mac (Microsoft 365) with the add-in; any Excel with Power Query for refreshable tables; any spreadsheet at all with CSV and XLSX downloads.
How long does setup take?
Connecting QuickBooks takes a few minutes and the first Explore sheet follows immediately. Multi-entity groups add a short account-mapping review per entity. There is no implementation partner and nothing to install on a server.
Where is my data stored?
In a dedicated database per organization on a US cloud provider, encrypted at rest and in transit. API keys for Excel are read-only and scoped to your organization, and you can revoke them at any time.
